Affiliate partnerships

Build affiliate partnerships around fit, trust and clarity

The questions to settle before asking publishers and creators to promote your brand.

An affiliate channel begins with a partnership proposition: a relevant audience, an offer worth sharing and clear expectations on both sides. Recruiting a large number of partners is not a substitute for making those foundations work.

Define the audience and the offer

Identify the products or services that suit the channel and the kinds of customers you want to reach. A publisher with a smaller, closely matched audience may be a better fit than a much larger but unrelated platform.

Write down the terms

Clarify eligible traffic, commission rules, attribution windows, approval conditions and payment processes before activity begins. Partner permissions for paid search, brand keywords, coupon use and creative assets should be explicit.

Give partners useful material

Provide clear product information, approved imagery, accurate benefits, audience context and a working destination. Partners need enough information to create useful content without inventing claims or suggesting experience they have not had.

Make the relationship transparent

Plan appropriate affiliate disclosures for each market and channel. The relationship should be understandable to the audience, and endorsements should reflect the real evidence and experience behind them.

Check the measurement path

A tracking link is only the beginning. Check that destinations work, program permissions are current and reporting can distinguish clicks, attributed conversions, approved commission and actual payment.

Review quality alongside volume

Look at whether partner content helps the audience and represents the brand accurately. Use the available conversion and approval evidence to refine the program. Estimated revenue should not be presented as settled profit.
